2014 Resolution Concerning the 221 General Assembly’s Actions

The Alexandria Presbyterian Church Session protests the actions of the 221st General Assembly in its approval of same-sex marriage.

Whereas, this action is contrary to the plain meaning of the Scriptures of both the Old and the New Testaments,

Whereas, this action is contrary to the essential tenets of the Reformed faith as expressed in the Confessions of the Presbyterian Church (USA),

Whereas, this action sets our denomination at odds with the overwhelming majority of Christians in the world today,

Whereas, this action is an accommodation to a cultural trend that is contrary to God’s revealed will, and

Whereas, we will each stand one day before the holy God and held to account for our submitted obedience to God’s Word, God’s Son and God’s will,

We hereby repudiate the actions of the 221st General Assembly in approving of same-sex marriage.

This resolution shall serve as notice that we, the duly elected and installed leadership of the Alexandria Presbyterian Congregation, as stewards of the financial resources of this church, will meet our 2014 financial commitment to the Presbytery of Huntingdon, by paying in full our 2014 Per Capita. We cannot at this time commit to fully meeting the 2015 Per Capita. The portion that is in jeopardy is that which goes to the General Assembly of the PCUSA. This portion will continue to be in jeopardy until such a time as the General Assembly reverses course on this matter. Those funds that would normally go to the General Assembly will be redirected to ministries that align with our convictions until such a time that the General Assembly repents of its action and returns to God’s natural design for human sexuality as revealed at Creation, affirmed by Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Furthermore, we resolve that the facilities of this church shall not be used for same-sex weddings nor shall pastors associated with our church be authorized by this session to perform weddings of same-gender people.

We request that our resolution be included in the formal record of correspondence at the next meeting of the presbytery and that it be communicated by the presbytery to the Stated Clerk of the General Assembly.

Respectfully submitted by the members of the Session of the Alexandria Presbyterian Church.

  1. I am so thankful that our church has taken the stand for our God and His Holy Scriptures. I know in my heart that I could have not remained a member if we had conceded to the General Assembly’s
decision. May God Bless each and everyone of you who chose to stand on the side of the
    scriptures. Diane Kidd
