Old Testament Reading
Isaiah 5:1-7 is often referred to as the song of the vineyard and is the first of three distinct sections in chapter 5. This song (poem) is addressed to the “inhabitants of Jerusalem and people of Judah.” This poem begins as a love song and transforms into a charge against the vineyard. Then a declaration of punishment is made against the vineyard. The last verse tells us that the vineyard “is the house of Israel, and the people of Judah.” It then tells us that their crimes consisted of giving bloodshed for justice and ignoring righteousness.
How can we help bring justice to our world?
